  • Starfield performs poorly on Valve's Steam Deck, facing long load times, crashes and unstable framerates.

Content creator and accessibility consultant Steve Saylor criticized Bethesda's recently released game, Starfield, for its lack of accessibility features.

While the initial reviews are positive, Saylor pointed out limited accessibility options such as font customization and subtitle settings, which could be problematic for players with disabilities, Kotaku reported.

"If folks were hoping space would be accessible, it is not,” Saylor says in a 13-and-a-half-minute-long video. "I wish I could say that this was going to be the first accessible hit from Bethesda — it is not. Sadly, not even close."

Furthermore, he praises some aspects of the game but attributes the accessibility issues to Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT Bethesda rather than Xbox. It's unclear if future updates will address these concerns.

Valve's Steam Deck Vs. Starfield

Starfield doesn't perform well on Valve's portable Steam Deck, according to early reviews.

Critics reported long loading times, crashes, unstable framerates and significant drops during gameplay and combat when playing "Starfield" on the Steam Deck.

Bethesda had discouraged reviewing the game on this platform, and it's not surprising given that Starfield is demanding even on more powerful systems such as the Xbox Series X.

While future patches or mods may improve the situation, playing the game on the Steam Deck is currently not recommended. Starfield runs better on Xbox, even on the less powerful Xbox Series S.
