Kansas City Chiefs Are Primed For Super Bowl Three-Peat, Sports Betting Data Suggests

Zinger Key Points
  • No NFL team has won three straight Super Bowls.
  • Bettors in several states are backing the Kansas City Chiefs to make history in the 2024 season, while others are backing their home team.

The Kansas City Chiefs became one of the few National Football League (NFL) teams to win back-to-back Super Bowls with a win in Super Bowl LVIII.

The team will now attempt to do what no NFL team has done in league history, win three Super Bowls in a row.

Betting odds show the Chiefs as the favorite to win Super Bowl LIX, and the team is getting plenty of love at BetMGM:

  • Chiefs: +600
  • San Francisco 49ers: +650
  • Ravens: +1,000
  • Lions: +1,200
  • Buffalo Bills: +1,400
  • Bengals: +1,400
  • Houston Texans: +1,400
  • Eagles: +1,400
  • Green Bay Packers: +1,600
  • Dallas Cowboys: +1,800

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads The Chiefs roster and will likely remain a trendy pick during the 2024 NFL season. The team faces the historical challenge, as no NFL team has even won two Super Bowls and then appeared in the Super Bowl the following season.

Several back-to-back Super Bowl-winning teams lost in their Conference Championship, missing out on a third straight Super Bowl by one game. Others failed to make the playoffs the following year.

Time will tell if the Chiefs can make NFL history, something bettors in some states will be cheering to happen.

John Ewing, who is part of the BetMGM Data & PR team, highlighted on X how states in which the sportsbook operates in are betting on Super Bowl LIX ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Most bettors in Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and New Jersey all back the Chiefs as the most likely Super Bowl winner on BetMGM — a joint venture of Entain and MGM Resorts International MGM.

Sports betting is not currently legal in the Chiefs' home state of Missouri. The Chiefs are listed as the favorite at odds of +600 at BetMGM.

Here's a look at the favorite in other states that aren't backing the Chiefs as their top pick and the current betting odds from BetMGM.

  • Illinois: Chicago Bears, +3,000
  • Kentucky: Cincinnati Bengals, +1,400
  • Louisiana: New Orleans Saints, +6,600
  • Massachusetts: New England Patriots, +15,000
  • Maryland: Baltimore Ravens, +1,000
  • Michigan: Detroit Lions, +1,200
  • New York: New York Jets, +2,200
  • Ohio: Cleveland Browns, +4,000
  • Pennsylvania: Philadelphia Eagles, +1,400
  • Tennessee: Tennessee Titans, +15,000
  • Mississippi: Detroit Lions, +1,200

All of the states above see bettors backing their home state team or a nearby team; the Lions are the exception, being the most bet team in Mississippi.

As you can see with the odds above, people are sometimes backing their home team despite being major underdogs going into the 2024 NFL season. Interestingly enough, some states don't back their underdog team like Nevada (Las Vegas Raiders), Arizona (Arizona Cardinals) and Colorado (Denver Broncos).

Teams like the Patriots and Titans have the second-worst odds to win the Super Bowl, trailing only the Carolina Panthers (+25,000).
