The $3500 Question: Apple's Vision Pro Or A Bucketful Of Other Gadgets?

Zinger Key Points
  • Vision Pro comes with a hefty price tag of $3500. What else can you bag with that tech budget?
  • Options extend from three Meta Quest 3 VRs, a PlayStation VR2+PS5 combo, to a custom-made computer.

Apple Inc AAPL on Monday introduced Vision Pro, a spatial computer headset that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others.

Vision Pro creates an infinite canvas for apps that scales beyond the boundaries of a traditional display and introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user's eyes, hands, and voice.

The device features visionOS, the world's first spatial operating system. The design of Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design to ensure every experience feels like it's taking place in front of the user's eyes in real time.

But at $3500, Vision Pro isn't cheap. So what other awesome tech can you get for that price or less?

Here are a few options:

If we're talking about VR headsets, you can opt for Vision Pro's competitor, Meta Platforms Inc's META "Meta Quest 3" which was announced last week. At $999, you can buy three of them for the price of one Vision Pro.

Or, you can buy the Sony Group Corp SONY PlayStation VR2 headset. And while you'll need a PlayStation 5 to use it, you can pick up a brand-new PS5 right now for $459, bringing your all-in total to around $1,060.

Speaking of PS5, you can buy seven of them. Though, be careful, scalpers aren't making money on PS5s anymore.

You can also pick up Apple's lower end of its newest Mac Studio. The Mac Studio is a powerful desktop computer starting at $1999, featuring the company's newest M2 Max chip.

How about three units of Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max, or five units of Alphabet Inc’s GOOG GOOGL Pixel 7 Pro?

You can also build a custom — overpowered — computer for roughly $2,000.

For the investors reading this, you can opt for 19.53 shares of the Cupertino, California based company at its current share price of $179.29.

And for those who prefer a traditional watch to the latest Apple Watch, I even found this used Rolex Air King Precision for $2,700 on eBay.
