McDonald's Launches Wedding Package With Chicken Nuggets In This Country, Will Guests Say 'I'm Lovin' It'?

Zinger Key Points
  • McDonald’s Indonesia Instagram account shared details about a 'wedding' package.
  • One person who could be happy to hear that about the catering initiative is former President Donald Trump.

Over the years, fast food giant McDonald’s MCD has introduced products like the dollar menu, drive-throughs and the Happy Meal.

A novel McDonald's menu item is being introduced in a certain country, potentially as a trial, before it's launched in the United States.

What Happened: McDonald’s has rolled out a wedding food package in Indonesia similar to catering that other restaurants provide.

The decision comes on the heels of McDonald’s recently reporting strong financial results that beat analysts’ estimates. Global comparable sales were up 12.6% year-over-year.

McDonald’s Indonesia Instagram account shared more details about the package, which includes 100 chicken sandwiches and 100 four-piece chicken nugget packs.

“McD’ers, let’s make your wedding moment more memorable with the Wedding Mekdi package! For only IDR 3.5 million (around $230), you can get 100 pcs of Chicken Burger & 100 packages of McNuggets containing 4 pcs,” the post translates to in English.

Other food options are also said to be available for packages with a minimum order size of 200 pieces overall.

“There are service options as well, where we can also provide food stalls at an additional cost,” McDonald’s Indonesia’s Rizki Haryadi told The Sun.

Haryadi said the package is not for hosting a wedding at McDonald’s locations. The Sun shared that in Hong Kong, couples can tie the knot inside McDonald’s locations.

Why It’s Important: If the McDonald's wedding option proves to be a hit, it is possible that it makes its way over to the U.S.

This could include wedding packages or a broader rollout of catering, something restaurants have turned to as more consumers opt for getting food to-go or delivered instead of eating inside restaurants.

One person who could be happy to hear that about the catering initiative is former President Donald Trump, who recently enjoyed a McDonald's meal after his federal court hearing. He also ordered McDonald’s for first responders at the Ohio train derailment.

Trump was rumored to have wanted to put a McDonald’s inside the White House during his time in office and asked the staff to make similar versions of popular McDonald’s menu items.

In 2019, during the government shutdown that resulted in the furlough of White House staff, Trump chose to serve McDonald's and other fast-food meals to the visiting Clemson football team, who were there to celebrate their NCAA Championship.
