Who Are Trump's 6 Unindicted Co-Conspirators In 2020 Election Case? Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, And John Eastman Among Likely Figures

Zinger Key Points
  • Donald Trump was indicted for a third time Tuesday with four charges related to the 2020 election.
  • The case against Trump also says there were six co-conspirators who helped, but did not publicly name them.

Former President Donald Trump was indicted for a third time on Tuesday, on charges related to the 2020 election.

What Happened: Trump is facing four charges related to the 2020 election: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an attempt to obstruct and official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The charges against Trump come after the former president shared that he was the target of a third indictment, blaming special counsel Jack Smith.

Along with the charges against Trump related to the 2020 election, federal prosecutors said that six co-conspirators helped “assist him in his criminal efforts to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election and retain power,” as reported by the Washington Post.

Who Are Trump’s Co-Conspirators?: The six co-conspirators were not charged Tuesday and have not been publicly named. Several media outlets have done their best to identify the parties based on descriptions from prosecutors.

Here are the likely co-conspirators based on descriptions and media predictions.

Co-Conspirator 1: Rudy Giuliani

Former New York City mayor and Trump attorney Giuliani is listed by the Washington Post as co-conspirator 1. The description for this individual says it was an attorney “who was willing to spread knowingly false claims and pursue strategies” related to the 2020 re-election campaign.

A spokesman for Giuliani said the indictment punished those for “daring to ask questions about the 2020 election results.”

Co-Conspirator 2: John Eastman

The description for the second co-conspirator says it was an attorney “who devised and attempted to implement a strategy to leverage the Vice President’s ceremonial role overseeing the certification proceeding to obstruct the certification of the presidential election.”

Eastman was involved in investigating several states that Biden won in the 2020 election, including Georgia.

In a statement Tuesday, Eastman’s lawyer Charles Burnham said the indictment “relies on a misleading presentation of the record to contrive criminal charges against presidential candidate Trump and to cast ominous aspersions on his close advisors.”

Burnham said Eastman will not take a plea and will go to trial if indicted.

“The Eastman legal team is confident of its legal position in this matter,” Burnham said.

Co-Conspirator 3: Sidney Powell

The third co-conspirator is listed as an attorney who “embraced and publicly amplified” Trump's accusations about the 2020 election. The person in question also told others privately that election fraud claims were “crazy.”

Powell represented former Trump national security advisor Michael Flynn previously. The attorney claimed that voting machines were hacked to help Biden win the 2020 election.

The attorney has been sanctioned and sued for defamation related to past election rigging claims, including a lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems.

Co-Conspirator 4: Jeffrey Clark

Clark is the previous assistant attorney general and Justice Department official who matches a description that the conspirator worked with Trump to “use the Justice Department to open sham election crime investigations and influence state legislatures.”

Co-Conspirator 5: Kenneth Chesebro

The fifth co-conspirator is listed as an attorney who “assisted in devising and attempting to implement a plan to submit fraudulent slates of presidential electors to obstruct the certification proceeding.”

The Washington Post said that Chesebro was among the first to suggest that electors in states lost by Trump could organize.

After contacting a friend that represented the Trump campaign about the strategy, Chesebro is said to have contacted Eastman, Giuliani and Trump advisor Boris Epshteyn. The parties worked together in connection with swing states related to the 2020 election.

Co-Conspirator 6: “A Political Consultant”, Michael Roman, Boris Epshteyn

The investigation describes the sixth co-conspirator as a “political consultant who helped implement a plan to submit fraudulent slates of presidential electors to obstruct the certification proceeding.” The indictment says the co-conspirator sent an email that listed lawyers in swing states that could help with the efforts of the first co-conspirator (Giuliani).

While the Washington Post did not list a name for the potential sixth co-conspirator, the New York Post lays out Michael Roman and Epshteyn as having the potential to fit the description.

During the 2020 election, Roman served as a director for Trump's election day efforts and assisted in coordinating with "fake electors" in swing states. It was reported previously that Roman could be working with Smith’s office on an agreement to cooperate in exchange for avoiding prosecution.

Epshteyn acted as a special assistant to Trump while he was in office and further played an advisory role during the 2020 election campaign..
